Home ownership is funny. I feel very protective of the bits of the house that I've fiddled with. It's satisfying to think, yeah, I scraped and sanded that or painted there or stooped over those to apply polyurethane. I also like not being as sore as I thought I'd be after all of this. I'm sure some of it is just the nesting instinct -- new place! let's make it good! we can do anything! the world is our tomato! -- but I think that at least part of it is knowing that at the end of it, I'll own something slightly better and cooler. I never realized that ownership actually meant something to me. Funny how little you know yourself, even when you think otherwise...

It is strangely affecting, isn't it? "I made this!" (or, in my case, "I knocked that hole in the wall!")

This weekend is Very Not Good for helping you move, sorry. Maybe next time.

It is, it is! I want to knock a hole in a wall just to feel that emotional response. :)

Re: this weekend: even if I were expecting anyone in particular to respond to that invitation, which I'm not, you'd definitely get the "I live out of state" exemption. :)
