Do you have a free 3D CAD program you like? I don't have to do anything too complicated with it.

I'm used to real CADs and found Sketchup hard to make work. But I suspect this is like going from Windows to Mac - you can't quite understand how to do anything because you keep thinking it should be harder.

I've used both AutoCAD and Sketchup. Sketchup has a different paradigm, but once you learn its quirks, it's really fast. I like it a lot.

I've been pretty happy with Sketchup, though it does have its quirks.

GOOGLE SKETCHUP! OMG IT'S AWESOME!
*cough*

really though, it is. there are nifty little video tutorials too. Also I'd be happy to give you a quick crash-course at some point if you prefer that method.

Another one I have looked at recently is 3DVia Shape. It isn't that different than google sketchup. Neither of them are nearly as intuitive for creating stuff that is actually dimensioned, but really fun for sketchy things. I would really like to see sketchup succeed!

I first played with sketchup when it was not yet owned by google!
