On the flip side of the same coin is the ability to think "this will be funny later" when something absurdly terrible is happening, though, and I like that part.

That's true. That gets me through a lot.

Also, the originally-referenced feeling often gets me to photograph things... it's not quite "this will make a good livejournal entry", but it is at least "I must record this and make it permanent".

I'm the same way, but the trouble is that while I'm busy recording things, I am not busy experiencing them. Or maybe you could say I'm busy not experiencing them, which would also be true.

I may not recall the details later, but at least I'll know I had a good time and enjoyed life, instead of just having pictures of an event I wasn't wholly present at.

Just sayin'.
