I don't believe it. The sellers' bank welched yet again. They already said that they weren't ready for the payoff date once, and we had to move our closing from the 30th to Nov. 13th. They just did it again.

No word yet on how long it's going to be this time.

Aw, fuckers.

I hope they don't make ONE PEEP of grumpiness in your direction. Ever.

Because, if they do, I will break their shins.

So, what, they can't cash your check? Why would they be having problems accepting your money?

*grr*

I have no idea why it is not in their benefit to accept a huge sum of money as soon as possible. Neither, apparently, does anyone else.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, this whole process is so skewed towards the seller there's probably not much you can do, eh? *grump*

Are they trying to purchase another house of their own, or something?

Other than sucking mightily, that sounds like it might be actionable. Have the sellers signed any documents stating that closing would be on 30 October? Check with your realtor (you do have a buyer's agent, correct?) -- see if they've heard anything about other buyers looking at the property. If not, this may be a pretext for renegotiating the contract at a lower price -- if they've already reneged on the contract, it's null and void and you can start from a new slate.

Or perhaps you don't want to get quite so in-your-face about the whole thing. But it's a thought.

As much as it pains me to say this... It's lawyer time!

It's a contract, they're dragging their heels, flourish a lawyer at them and [he/she/it] will find out why.

Good luck!

Apparently -- and I need to reread all of the relevant sections -- the only date requirement is on OUR end. We had to meet our requirements by the sell-by date, but they apparently can drag their heels all they damn well please, it seems.

grah! At any rate, I would love (for once) to sic the law on this. If it's even possible, I'll try it. But the lawyer herself just suggested pestering their bank. bah. pigfuckers, all!
