As it turns out, Natalie does not like chocolate breastmilk. Seriously.
For as long as I can remember, drinking lots of apple juice has made me smell like apples. Not in a bad way -- it's just as if I dabbed a little eau de pomme in strategic locations all over my body. Still, I tend to avoid drinking it, because it's a little strange to be haunted by the scent of apples.
While I was pregnant, something similar started happening with chocolate. When

HMMMMMMM.
Sure enough, when I cut out chocolate, she stopped having gas issues. But -- come on! Chocolate breastmilk! Isn't that supposed to be magical? Who doesn't want chocolate parents? (Yes, I know, there was probably a significant problem on her end because I didn't fully digest it, or I had problems with it, or something. Still.)
(Also: gas makes her so sad! I'd never seen a fart make someone cry before. So very sad.)
As for the pain at latch-on that I used to have, it is largely gone. I still have sensitive nipples, so that when she cluster-feeds, nursing every half hour or so for hours, my nipples go on strike and she gets a bottle. That way, I don't bleed and/or curse so much. I think that's better for everyone, really.
In other news, we're roughly diurnal, now! My day seems to start at 5 or so, which isn't ideal, but it'll do for a start. Hooray!

Wow... you're lucky to have gotten by so well without too many gassy episodes.
So... I take it have you managed to avoid blow outs [1] thusfar?
Those will make *you* cry right along with her. THough I laughed when it happened to Aidan, only because he was so miserable, and then looked so utterly pleased with himself once he got it all out. (until he realized he had a dirty diaper, then he started screaming again)
I'm still trying to track down what makes Aidan so gassy. I've eliminated dairy (not it!), caffeine (definite not it) a lot of veggies (possible), fruit (not probable) and pre-packed food (likely culprits) and several other things... I think I just have a gassy child (though thankfully not a colicky one!)
[1] excessive gas-propelled poop that comes out with such force it sometimes makes it up to their necks? [2]
[2] I learned this term from my Dad, who apparently had this problem very frequently with Katie, we've only had two with Aidan thusfar
