I turn around for ten minutes, and suddenly I find that my job is interesting. This puts a serious crimp in my plan to just goof off for the next three months.
My job got interesting on Monday. This is not a good thing. It was also inevitable.
The server went down. It had been going down a few months ago then Dave patched and fixed and babied it. It behaved well since then and perfectly for the past three weeks. When I came in on Monday it was down. I learned one way to get it back up again. When I came in Tuesday it was down. Contracted Dave-backup arrived for emergency visit (3 hour minimum charge), taught me another way to get it back up. When I came in today it was down. No one could teach me a way to get it back up, that sucker was dead. Contracted Dave-backup, arriving for another emergency visit, courteously did not say "I told you so" although he had, several times. I've lost the past couple of days to dealing with (computer) server and (human) client issues.
Why was this inevitable? Because Dave went on vacation on Sunday.
