Taking 90 minutes to drive a 20 or maybe 30 minute commute is not my idea of a great morning. On the bright side, now that [livejournal.com profile] dilletante has spent an hour rubbing my lower back just so for the past 2 evenings, I am feeling a lot more like getting up and walking around than I had been. This is great.

I clearly need to get back into the camera habit.

Thank you. :) I miss being a picture-taker. That's my goal, to get back into daily photos by the end of July.

No idea! I kept expecting to see an accident or something, but no. Was a little bit of drizzle really that horrifying?

Looking down on Storrow Drive from the bridge I was walking over, I could see that all the drains had backed up and the puddles were gigantic. This was when it had only been raining for an hour, too. I also passed a stalled bus, which might've slowed things down even more.

Also, nice icon!

Yay! It was taken at Firefly (http://firefly.chaoshacker.org/), where my belly was painted by a wonderful woman whose name I've forgotten.

I know that near the city there was flooding, but as far as I know, up where you and I travel, there wasn't any. I think Boston drivers really are just that boneheadded in the rain. (and the snow, and...well, you know.)

Yuck! My commute was not bad, especially for a rainy day, but I also drove veeeeery early :)

tips or hints! Hmmmmm. Other than "bracket all your shots" and "use the histogram", not really. You have a staggering eye for the nifty, already. :)

bracket?
i know of this bracketing thing, but not really how to use it. you just always have shots set to take at 3 exposure settings? or?

and i also don't really understand how to "use" the histograms.... i should bug you and make you show me what knowedge you derive from them :)

Without the camera in front of me I can't picture how to do it, annoyingly. But I'd love to talk about histograms! Let's sit around and play with cameras, some time. :)

huh, interesting! i never use the saturation histogram, except when cleaning pictures up in photoshop. but i cheat. i set the exposure about a quarter-stop underexposed from its default, so there's always enuf color left in too-bright areas to fix them later.

i also think i've got the metering set funny... probably center-weighting rather than area weighting. have to look at home, tho.

But it's so rewarding to look at the histogram while you're taking the pictures, to get an idea of where all of the information is in a shot. I mean, it looks the same as a histogram you'd see in photoshop or the gimp, but you see it instantly. :)

I guess I don't know if it's *useful*, really, but I do use it.

oh, yeah, there's much to be said for knowing whether the picture is any good right away. otoh, i've had a certain success :) with the brute force approach. for every picture i post, i take between three and fifteen shots of the subject. the latter was that bridge. so many choices, so little time between dodging cars. :)

oh, and i just got a fancy-ass tripod with a pistol-grip dealie for aiming the camera -- so much easier than setting each axis separately. one more thing i'll corrupt you into getting. ;)
