Well, here's what it must be like to hike with me:
We're walking up a hill and David spies some icicles growing on a rock in the shade. "Icicles!", he says. "Icicles!", I say, and run up. I take my camera out and try to photograph them, but the moss on the rock isn't very photogenic and they are, after all, in the shade. So, I select one (fat and strong, sturdy, not ostentatiously long) and carefully break it off to bring along with me. I finally consent to leave, and so we stride along for five or ten steps until I see a little bit of twiggy brush in the perfect beam of sunlight, and I stab the icicle in and photograph it for a while.
You must be familiar with Andy Goldsworthy's work? This reminds me of his stuff, although it's really quite different in actual composition, it has a similar feel.
do you know the work of andy goldsworthy (http://images.google.com/images?q=andy+goldsworthy&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&client=safari&rls=en-us&sa=N&tab=ii&oi=imagest)?
And yes, I love him. ceelove first introduced me to him. Actually, when trying to decide whether it was lame to be posing this shot, I thought of his stuff and felt much better. :)
