Want to hear what a Tasmanian Devil actually sounds like? Well, here you go. Hint: they sound like phlegmy little zombies.

They look a bit cuter than that: here's a short little movie, and, of course, two photos:

OMG IT'S WASHING ITS CUTE LITTLE FACE!

You know, come to think of it, Warner Brothers got the sound of Taz down reasonably accurately.

Yeah. And, apparently, the ripping into things (http://www.tased.edu.au/tot/fauna/devilfeed.mov) bit, too. That's a movie of a few of the little guys tearing into a wallaby roadkill fed to them by a zookeeper. They eat the whole thing, bones and all.

Yes, I remember the first time I saw them on television (I think it was the "Croc Hunter") and was very surprised that they sounded EXACTLY like Taz, except for the raspberry/spitting sound he makes. (Which is fun to do at parties to entertain your drunk friends)

Hello hello! By the way, I've always liked the poster depicted in your icon.

that when I turned on my speakers, I discovered that another webpage (presumably) had "How Great Thou Art" on repeat. And so I found myself playing Tasmanian Devil noises on top of it.

Hey, their ears don't face forward! That's kinda strange...

Hmm. They're predators and also scavengers. Perhaps they're hunted by larger things? (That's a predator/prey thing, yes?)

i don't think so...

the tazzy devil is one of the largest predators in australia (i think). they're also pretty damn vicious (they even made jeff corwin nervous) -- and adorable! rawr!

i think maybe some of the bigger venemous snakes *might* eat a tazzy youngster if it can find one that's kinda dumb about snakes.

perhaps i watch too much animal planet.

Taz is cute until you see him in action.

When I was in Australia, the coops at the nature sanctuary we visited were open to the sky. A pigeon came down and landed in Taz's cage.

Taz had previously been invisible, and I dind't get too get a look at thim as he darted out, grabbed the pigeon, and dragged it into his lair, but man, did that pigeone squeal for a few seconds, and the chewing noises....

But the koala bear that dropped its eucalyptus leaf was even scarier. Koalas are basically eucalyptus junkies, and he was desperate for a fix, man!

Now I wish they lived in Maine, just so they could hang out in the national forest and make those noises right outside the tents of vacationing cityfolk.
