For the first time in years, there's nothing hanging over my head. No work deadlines, no spectre of thesis, nothing. Everything I do from this moment out is new and deliberately chosen.
This afternoon, I'm going to the gym. Then, I'm going to a friend's place to watch a movie. If I have time, I'm going to put together my fixed-gear bike that has been waiting until the thesis draft was in. If I don't have time, I'll do that tomorrow.
Lots and lots of biking, that's the short-term plan. It will help me figure out where to next point my laser-like gaze.
It is cold! It is BUTT-cold. You know, they call it butt-cold because all of that sweet insulating adipose tissue in my ass gets icy cold to the touch. Cold butts! Cold butt cold! Butt-cold!
Anyway. Thankfully, my commute to work is 11 - 12 miles, so out there and back is plenty of biking for me for a while, until it warms up a bit more. :)
Mmmmm, adipose tissue... (that's where M found my supply of body fat, incidentally)
My school commute is 2 miles. Which is enough to work up a sweat, but not enough for my body to reach an equilibrium coldness, so my butt will remain cold as I sit down in class, while my body sweats and my extremities thaw. I'm actually just hoping at this point that I'll be able to make it in <9 minutes like I've been doing, since I haven't done much exercising at all lately.
Congrats to you. That must feel very odd. I'm not sure I've ever been in that position. Even if there's nothing for work, moving, job hunt, or whatever governmental or financial organization that's screwed up most recently, there are always photographs to organize*, paper to be filed, or clothes to sort. Oh, wait, I sorted all my clothes last week. One permanently-overhanging job done!

Oh, actually, I have an entire room filled with photographs, slides, and negatives that need sorting. I have all of my parents' combined photos to sort and divvy up between me and my brothers. I have a kitchen that needs cleaning so badly it has practically developed speech organs so that it can tell me about it. But somehow, those don't feel like chores! Maybe this is illusory, but I feel like I can *choose* to do those things.
There's always something to do, but there's nothing left I've promised to anyone else, or to myself.
