When am I going to learn that if I don't get my bike ready the night before and lay out my clothes, getting ready to bike in will take me an hour, no matter what? I'm not good at remembering this, since getting ready to drive to work takes about five minutes:

* stumble into bathroom and pee (:30)
* brush teeth (:45 to 2:00, depending on mood)
* make face in mirror and sigh exasperatedly at hair (:05)
* move hair from ugly-bedhead-messy to sexy-bedhead-messy (:10)
* walk back into bedroom and don dark clothes from top of pile (1:00, 1:30 including locating and putting on socks)
* slip on shoes and coat, find gloves and keys (:30)
* kiss [livejournal.com profile] dilletante goodbye (:15)
* pick up laptop, walk out door (:10)
* walk back into house to get work ID and wallet (:30 to 1:30, depending on whether I've hidden my ID)
* skritch confused kitties (:10)
* leave and lock door (:10)

Yeah, that's about right -- 4:15 to 7:45. So why does it take me a freaking hour to get ready to bike? I have to eat, pee, brush my teeth, digest, check the weather, pick out good clothes for the weather, check the weather again, peek outside to make sure the forecasts aren't lying, mumble about not wanting to bike even though I know I do want to, digest the food from earlier, dither about on LJ, pet kitties, kiss sleepy [livejournal.com profile] dilletante's forehead, search around until I find my earwarmer, wrap my laptop in garbage bags and put it in the panniers, pump up my tires, check my brakes, find the right gloves, pee again, put on my shoes, lug the bike and panniers outside, go back to lock the door, and only then can I go.

A wee bit inefficient, I guess.

Ha! This is so familiar. I haven't ridden to work since July because of stuff like that!

I guess your workmates don't care whether you've showered? I couldn't get away with that...

I'd like to ride, though. I guess I'd better start a routine so I don't have to be quite so awake on bicycle mornings. It's more fun than joining a Health Club.

i do all that when i AM driving to work, so i don't even want to think about how much i'd dither if i were biking.

Routine! I need a routine.

There's a shower here at work. Kind of a cushy setup, really. Even so, I don't always shower, I just change into clean office clothes.

I can sympathize with all of this.

*laughing* [livejournal.com profile] zsquirrelboy is just as bad at both ends of a bike ride. And I always take an hour to get ready in the morning, although I shower and eat in the morning. I will dither until that hour is used up, however, even if I could be done earlier if I really tried.

No kidding. I am, much to my regret, intimately familiar with [livejournal.com profile] ectophylla's morning routine.

[livejournal.com profile] ectophylla: Hold this. *fuss* *clean*
[livejournal.com profile] fishfoo: Mrrrgh?

Yes, but you would *do* what I told you to. You were the morning zombie who didn't have the energy to complain. And that meant I could get a lot of stuff done in a very short time. And didn't have to carry trash bags while doing it.

(pinkie zombies need braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaains)
(It's a good thing there's no one in my office this morning, because I couldn't read either your post or mine without laughing.)

dither

I plan in about 7-10 minutes of dither time because my conscious brain feels more comfortable rounding off to the half hour when I'm setting my alarm. Actual dithering varies from minute-and-a-half to damn-it-how'd-it-get-this-late.

That 4:15 to 7:45 minutes to get ready is way impressive.

It takes me forever. I've developed too many morning habits . . . stretching / yoga, exercise, sometimes a bit of meditation, wandering around the kitchen, sitting for no apparent reason (I could call this location specific meditation but let's not lie), making porridge, and lulling Jina out from the tangle of covers giving her an angry sleep.

Okay reading what I just wrote is freaking me out.
