a backlog of happy things

Of all the things to worry about, I think that worrying about whether or not I should post happy things to LJ tops the list of "useless worries I would like to rid myself of". So here you go.
LILAX.
Lilacs are my favorite flower, for a lot of reasons; mother's day is my least favorite holiday, for one very simple one. This year, though, I slept until noon, got brunch in bed with a bonus mustache, had kisses and snuggles, read my book, and through the grace and love of
dilletante had the best, most relaxed mother's day ever. I missed lilac sunday at the arboretum but I wouldn't have missed the rest of it for the world.

TAROT!
Last year, during the teardown-afternoon of our Burning Man camp (Snack Food Glory Hole),
fennel and I decided at the last minute to run around trying to stage the major arcana of the tarot using only our campmates, snack foods, and things at hand. Because of the crazy harried manner we did it in, I think only the two of us had any idea what the finished set would basically look like until last week. Some make more sense than others, but all were great fun to take, and it definitely makes me want to make more art with
fennel. The full set can be found here. Here's an unfairly awesome sampling:

And
veek as the star:

I put off editing and posting them for so long because of a few major hurdles. Some time this month, I suddenly realized how to go about editing the various problematic images, and once I started I couldn't stop. Since I almost never allow myself to edit photos, it was a blast to give myself complete free reign. Now that they're all done, I will make a post about all the crazy things I did to them.
SURPRISE! TRIP!
So there I was one Friday, taking a sick day, sleeping until noon, and when I wake up, there are about a zillion texts from
aroraborealis and
redheadedmuse, both in San Francisco, enticing me to come out for a party that night. I say, no, seriously, I'm dead flat broke, and they say, it's fine. We've taken up a collection. Now get your butt on an airplane. After some hemming and hawing, I find a ridiculously cheap last-minute flight, and two hours later, I'm boarding a plane. I didn't even know you could do that. My entire luggage set was a single handbag with cherries on it.
It was gloriously, sun-drowningly, life-affirmingly awesome.

Sunday night -- late, late Sunday night, the kind of Sunday night that is unexpectedly well into Monday --
spike picked me up at the airport and welcomed me home with love and sleepy joy. I am so happy to have had the chance to get away from it all and be completely lazy and carefree for a couple of days; it outlined for me how happy I am on the path I'm on, in the place I'm in. I wish I'd gotten to see everyone I wanted to see in San Francisco, but I think that more time there would have made me feel less connected to everything. Somerville, I love you, every grotty little bit. Thank you for being my home.
BIRTHDAY!
Since I was out of the office for my birthday, my coworkers decided to spring birthday wishes on me a day early, and I have to say, they got me the BEST CAKE! It was an ice cream cake (which I am in love with because I am secretly, like, eight) from Coldstone Creamery, made from red velvet cake and, here's the genius bit, cake batter ice cream. Aaaaaaaaa. I am looking for a new job because I want new work and more money, but when I go, I will miss my actual OFFICE a lot.
Then, for my actual birthday, I went off into NoCellLandia for five days and had a hell of a time. Natalie makes an excellent hiking companion. I got some sun and some sleep and detached myself from the world again for a bit (this time with
dilletante and N right there with me), and, well, hooray.
Lounging in completely impractical sandals:

And then I came BACK to the world and saw about a ZILLION birthday messages to me, and felt super, super, superfantastic. I love birthday wishes on my birthday. It makes me feel warm and squiggly. I don't care that Facebook makes it trivial. Actually, I LOVE that Facebook makes it trivial. It means I got birthday wishes from people from a true, crazy, ratty cross-section of my life.
Parting bonus photo: my office wall, decorated for spring/summer!
