Yesterday, we visited the small-but-charming Meguro Parasitological Museum -- a museum of human and animal parasites in Meguro-ku, a district of Tokyo, and not (as you might imagine) a museum devoted to parasites in tuna.
I couldn't bring myself to photograh most of the actual parasites. They were pretty cool, but ... anyway, there was this tapeworm in a display case that had been taken out of a man, and it was 8.8 meters long. In the display case, it was folded in lengths like a fire hose, but they had a handy fabric tape that you could extend to see how big 8.8m really is:

It was pretty impressive. The notebooks with detailed drawings kept by a parasitologist of the 50s (the guy who started the museum) were quite striking. The thing that got me, though, was that while the (unisex) bathroom had two separate sinks, neither of them had soap -- or, even, a soap dispenser. Does that seem odd to you?
