The Monkey Park is awesome!!! I was there a few years ago, although I don't think that little monkey on the fence has moved, as I have the same picture. (http://www.mappingtheglobe.com/pics/japanpics/images/babymonkey.jpg)
Monkies!!!! The area by the monkey park is amazing too. Also! I highly highly recommend that you go to the Northern most temple in Kyoto. I don't remember the name, but it is the temple that is on the side of a mountain and you can 1 yen for small disks that you throw off the side of the mountain for purification purposes.
If you take the bus (I want to say it was yellow) to the Northern most point and get off there. There is a little store and a restaurant there. You cross the river and if you go up the stairs (a lot of them) there is a temple. However, if you choose to go down the river path, it is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. It winds through the mountains and it follows the river. The river water is so unbelievable clear that I was tempted to strip down and swim (sadly there were other people walking the path). That walk was one of the highlights of all of my traveling experiences. Here (http://www.mappingtheglobe.com/pics/japanpics/imagepages/image5.htm) is a picture I took a long the way. I have others, but they are not digital.
