It's never exactly the RIGHT time to learn that poison control centers are completely frigging awesome, but I'm still happy I did.

(We split a daffodil bulb for dinner. Please don't ask why. We are all fine, if blorpy.)

I...I can't ask why>?

Um. *clamps hand over mouth*

[identity profile] moominmolly.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
One little girl was overheard saying, "WHY ISN'T THIS BEING YUMMY?!" in a very sad voice. It would be funny if I weren't feeling so nasty!!

"wait, that wasn't a shallot?"

[identity profile] moominmolly.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Slimiest shallot I ever saw! There were good intentions propping up a game of telephone, and we are all a bit wiser tonight. :)

is that actually what happened?

[identity profile] moominmolly.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
It's more complicated, and it makes more sense when you hear it all, but... kinda.

[identity profile] srl.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, a daffodil bulb made its way into your box of shallots? Huh?

[identity profile] twoeleven.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
eep! i'm glad y'all are all right.

[identity profile] kimberlogic.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
glad you're all ok.

[identity profile] spike.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh that's totally rotten to have happen! I'm so sorry!

I hope you all are better soon. *hugs to all*

[identity profile] ectropy.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Glad you're ok!

Sorry you had to have a learning experience!

[identity profile] badlittlemonkey.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oh...my. Good knowledge to have, but there are certainly better ways to gain said knowledge than through direct experience. *hugs*

I'm glad everyone is okay.

I too have had occasion to call poison control. And they *are* awesome. I'm glad you're fine.

[identity profile] dolohov.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Out of curiosity, what is the treatment for eating a daffodil bulb? Some manner of emetic, I'm guessing?

[identity profile] moominmolly.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
After hearing all of our particulars, she basically said to ride it out for 6-8 hours and it should work itself out. :/

[identity profile] dilletante.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, an emetic. it turns out that daffodil bulbs are an emetic, so it works out fine.

[identity profile] dolohov.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Convenient, that.
I hope you're feeling better this morning!

[identity profile] dancingwolfgrrl.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
If you have to call one, I feel it is *way* better for them to be completely frigging awesome, though. I hope it's all over very soon.

[identity profile] moominmolly.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
D seems to have the worst of it. :( and thanks, me too.

[identity profile] redheadedmuse.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
*hugs* I hope you are all happy and healthy in the morning.

Yikes! Glad to know you're going to be okay, especially after reading a bit about the effects of ingesting daffodil bulbs. Can we do anything to help? Bring Gatorade and Alka-Seltzer?

[identity profile] moominmolly.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I asked the Internet before calling Poison Control, so, yeah, I was there. It seems like it'll be fine, now, though, so we are drowning our sorrows in bland foods and Land of the Lost episodes on hulu. Thank you for the offer, though, a lot!

[identity profile] signsoflife.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Please don't die!

[identity profile] d3l1r1um.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Aiee. Glad you're fine.

I had to call them once. It's kind of a funny story, but I can totally understand not wanting to tell it. It's still sorta scary even thought it was fine.

[identity profile] starphire.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
I am grateful that S's stomach has a good instinct in this sort of situation, and hope you're all feeling better right quick.

[identity profile] jojotbird.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yay for poison control! If you need anything today let me know... I hope you feel better soon.

That is completely *fascinating*. Why, you ask? Well, because *just last night* at the usual dinner gathering at Doyles after aerials practice, one of the group was wondering just how many accidental deaths occurred per year involving houseplants. Really. Various people spent 10-15 minutes with their Iphones trying to figure this out, from sources such as the NIH web page, CDC, Google, and Wolfram Alpha.

Hope you get less queasy soon.

[identity profile] arachne8x.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad it has a mostly happy ending. I wish I could give each one of you a big hug.

[identity profile] kcatalyst.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope you're feeling better this morning! That sounds like no fun at all. Although like everyone else, I'm curious to someday hear the saga.

[identity profile] keyne.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
We've had to deal with Poison Control twice -- once when M ingested some Purell at eighteen months, once just last week when Q got a double dose of methylphenidate. They were calm and calming both times.

[identity profile] harimad.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Funny timing - we called them last night. My first time. The nurse was audibly delighted that I supplied N's age, weight, estimated amount of ingested material, and what N did after ingestion (threw up). Ahh, the advantages of having a pharmacist for a grandparent.

They called back today to see how N was doing. I think we'll have to add them to our list of annual charitable donations.
