Petty coffee complaints

I went out to a restaurant week dinner last night. The company was excellent, the food merely okay, and the service -- well, the service was really crappy. I don't think they refilled my water glass all evening. I indulged in an espresso, since I allow myself a tiny bit of caffeine from time to time, and I was shocked! shocked! to discover that not only had I not gotten a demitasse spoon, but also, that the little saucer was entirely bare.

I guess I have very strong feelings about my after-dinner coffee. One of the most delightful "me-too!" mealtime experiences I've ever had was with tafkar, where we shared our silly but firm after-dinner restaurant coffee preferences, down to the type of dishware.

Still, even a lonely nude espresso settles my stomach after dinner. It could have been worse.

I expect either the lemon rind, or nothing, since those are what I usually get. :)

Will you tell us which restaurant, so we can avoid it?

I was reluctant to do that, because I've heard good things about the place from several different people. I was thinking that the food quality and service could perhaps be attributed to the annoying stress of Restaurant Week. Anyway, it was Henrietta's Table in Harvard Square.

That said, my experience with Henrietta's Table has been vastly different than yours.

Though I haven't been there in ages, the food was always good to very good and the service has never been less than competant.

I'd say give them another try sometime..

Yeah, I'm planning on giving them another shot at some point. I think this was a disappointing restaurant experience, and I'm not yet willing to call it a disappointing restaurant. :)

I should clarify that our food wasn't bad, it just wasn't great. It was exactly what it said it would be, and there seemed to be no interesting/exciting flavors in any of the dishes I tried. Out of the 2 appetizers, 3 entrees, and 2 desserts that I tried, exactly 1 dessert was fabulous (a little wild berry pie thing). Nothing else was BAD, it was just middle-of-the-road. I expected a better hit rate. *shrug*

My one experience with Henrietta's Table was more like yours: decent but not great food, given the high prices, and indifferent (though not terrible) service. Another data point.
