today in somervilliness!

On the coming IKEA revolution. My favorite part of this article is the description of what it's like to walk to Assembly Square: 'Currently people "kind of run for their lives" at the main crossing, said advisory committee and Mystic View Task Force member Wig Zamore'. Yep, that's about what it's like. Walking to Assembly Square has always felt like this weird revolutionary act, to me -- we basically stopped doing it when we had a kid and the movie theater and arcade went out of business. I don't think we've walked to Assembly Square more than once or twice a year since then. Better pedestrian routes there would make my life a lot better, IKEA aside!

I never walked there when I lived in East Somerville. I could have, but no. I like livin'. Man, things move slowly there. I can't believe that almost eight years after I moved away, they're still not done with the redevelopment.

The slowness really has been almost surreal. There's visible change now, though, at least.
