chain of association

California English
Alabama Chicken
Tennessee Waltz
Nashville Skyline
London Calling

What comes next? I don't think it's Tokyo Police Club, but I might be wrong.

Bonus #1: the song [livejournal.com profile] ceelove played me last night, which is my new anthem: Unworthy, by Cheryl Wheeler.

Bonus #2: Nashville Skyline is still my favorite Dylan album, so here's another track.

Nashville Skyline: also my favorite. I am clearly a product of what my mother listened to in college.

(I thought Lay Lady Lay was about napping until I was well into my 20s!)

Jacques Brel and Nashville Skyline? I keep feeling like some day you and I should listen to music while doing some manual labor project.

Entertainingly, my mother hated both of them. She always wished I would just get into that nice Donovan fellow instead. We agreed on some other things (Simon and Garfunkel, Cat Stevens, etc).

Disqualified: three words forming a sentence. Close, though!

I thought at first these were albums and not songs, which made it a lot harder.

Tennessee Toad
Alabama Rain
Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp
Chattanooga Sugar Babe
Corpus Christi Carol
Dublin Boys
Jamaica Farewell
Kentucky Avenue
Panama Freighter

... and, of course, Wabash Cannonball.

I really wish I could find Uncle Bonsai's "Iowa Apology Song" on Youtube.

Sure, but I thought the challenge was to find matching songs on Youtube!

[identity profile] bkdelong.livejournal.com 2010-02-19 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Woo. Then massive fail on my part.

[identity profile] moominmolly.livejournal.com 2010-02-19 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, I was just trying to think of stuff. The YouTube bit was a red herring!

[identity profile] moominmolly.livejournal.com 2010-02-19 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! Unnecessary extra restriction. I just posted YouTube links because I was too lazy to post mp3s. That is my actual train of thought from listening to California English yesterday.

Depending on your rules about place-ness, does Calvary Cross count? Or Savoy Truffle?

This is surprisingly hard.

Waterloo Sunset!

Oh hey, good ones!

Cheryl Wheeler! I only know her from her silly Potato song, which I love. I assume you know it?

I fell into the same trap as [livejournal.com profile] qwwrty and was assuming albums:

American Idiot (Green Day)
Lincoln (TMBG)
Thornhill (Fruvous)

But songs?

Beverly Hills (Weezer)
California Sun (Gin Blossoms)
Canadian Rose (Blues Traveler)
Carolina Blues (Blues Traveler)
Hot 'Lanta (Allman Bros.)
Statesboro Blues (Allman Bros.)
Michigan Militia (Fruvous)

And the ones that don't quite work:

Brookyln (Owes The Charmer Under Me) (Steely Dan)
Fairytale of New York (The Pogues)
Lullaby of London (The Pogues)
Istanbul (Not Constantinople) (TMBG)
Road Movie To Berlin (TMBG)
Riot on Broad Street (Bosstones)

[identity profile] liminal-spaces.livejournal.com 2010-02-20 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Guns of Brixton
Ladies of the Canyon
Birds of Belfast
...hmmm...not *quite*...

How about:
Goodnight-Loving Trail
Jericho Road
Acadian Driftwood
Cross Road Blues
Louisiana 1927
Tupelo Honey

Unworthy is my anthem! My entire lj-theme is based on it. :)
