this evening's solemn work:

cuddling a small girl in fire truck pajamas who is too sniffly and coughy to stay asleep on her own without frequent doses of cuddles.

She was pretty chipper while awake! It's just the sleeping that's hard, poor thing. :(

that about lines up with how she was Sunday!

Poor kiddo. She's totally had more than her share of colds! For what it's worth, I find the decongestant you have to show ID for totally works better than the off-the-shelf stuff...

What is a one-year-old's share of colds, though? It might be pretty high.

That might be true. Her immune superpowers are still in development!

Poor little thing. Benjamin sends his sympathies too.

Poor sniffly small girl!

Solemn work indeed. Here's to clearer breathing and better sleep soon.

She started sleeping better when we came to bed. :)

Awwww, so cute and sad. Hope she unsniffles soon!

I bittersweetly love the extra cuddliness of sick kids. On the one hand, it can be tiresome, but on the other, sooo cuddly. Plus, it's nice to have my presence be so comforting.

I had a similar duty last night, and I did think, at some point, that there are worse things in the world than having to go up a flight of stairs occasionally to try to convince a small kid to sleep, when that small kid has learned that there are a number of tactics she can use to convince me to stay, like throwing her arm over me, telling me she loves me, and asking me to rock with her.

:)

That sounds a lot like my night, only instead of telling me she loved me, she just threw her arm around my neck and clutched me and sighed, "mama. mama mama."

That sounds supercute. Of course, we'll need a photo of her in firetruck pajamas to be sure.

yes. i was just thinking.

awww. poor baby!

but... fire truck pajamas.

my cat thrusts herself under my arm to go to sleep. and she wakes me up by insistently licking my face. i mean, that's not the same. but it's cute.

also, a little girl i didn't know, with huge cute braids, asked me for a hug in kinko's the other day. then she upped the demand to a kiss. still not the same thing, but still cute! and all (apparently) because i had explained to her how to use the scanner.
