My only fear with moving place-holders is, someone else may park in that spot not realizing there had been a place-holder, and then the place-holder might vandalize the car, thinking the owner moved the place-holder. It's really a nasty side of human nature, having to consider this.

This is true.  I'd only do it when parking my own car for any length of time; past that, I'd just move the object.  (Never had my car keyed!)
