foodies: help!

If you wanted to eat one good meal in New York City, didn't eat meat (other than fish), and wanted reservations for this weekend, where would you go? Meat on the menu is absolutely fine, as long as there are nonmeat/fish options available as well.

If you're eating non-sushi seafood, I would highly recommend Markt, on 14th Street and 9th Avenue in the hip and happening Meatpacking District (where I grew up). It's noisy as all get out, but it's easy to get to--plenty of buses down 9th and the A/C/E subways a block away--and the food is fabulous. They have a seafood stew that's just unbelievable, and of course they're Belgian and therefore the moules frites are not to be missed. I say this as someone who has identified all her life as a non-pescaterian, too!

If Markt is too loud or crowded, there are plenty of other options in the area (my favorite is Florent, which was there long before the neighborhood was trendy and has never lost its charm and character, and Pastis is great too). I'd be happy to show you around except that I will, ironically, be in Boston this weekend. Have a lovely time!
