Does anyone local have a doctor (GP) they would really really recommend? I like the sort who listen more than the sort who suck. My health plan is with Aetna, but I can go to any doctor.

hrm. i haven't had great luck with doctors for the past few years (mostly because my previous employer changed health plans on a nigh-quarterly basis, forcing me to repeatedly select a new PCP), and i can certainly recommend a few for you to avoid. however, i've been quite impressed with my current doctor so far (and with the clinic where he works).

this is Dr. David Epstein, at the brand-spanking-new Broadway Health Center, across from the Star Market on Broadway (right around the corner from you!). i've seen him a few times, and have the following observations:
  1. he seems to have a more flexible schedule than other doctors i've seen, as in, when you call to schedule an appointment, you don't necessarily need to wait two months before you can see him
  2. he's very personable - he has a good bedside manner, and i get a good emotional vibe from him
  3. the staff at the Broadway Health Center are hardworking - i was there a few weeks ago for a followup checkup, learned that my bloodwork showed that i had never had a particular vaccination, and asked to have it done immediately. they were all out of the vaccine, so a nurse hopped in her car, drove over to another clinic, and returned with a vial of vaccine in half an hour
  4. an added bonus - Dr. Epstein works in the adult medicine department, which is separate from the pediatrics department, so you're not sharing the waiting room with an army of sneezing toddlers

I think I've mentioned mine before. She's gotten good practice at listening to clued-in patients from me; and Deirdre and I have recommended two friends to her as well.

I'll send you info.

Yes, but I don't really know if he's taking new patients any more...we've recommended something like 60-70 people to him over the 4 years.

Dr. Ricardo Wellish, Reservoir Medical Assoc.
725 Concord Ave. Camb.

And I've lost their phone number.
