Important question from the new boss: "Do you like sushi? Wednesday night is sushi night."

It's like a different world in that office. Six weeks of vacation, weekly sushi, and good beer.

So you accepted the new position? And they let you work in pyjamas? Wow.

Actually, no, sadly -- still the same position. I'm just talking about the boss in Schiphol. I don't think they'd mind if I showed up in pajamas, though. Man, they're laid back.

Laid back? Who? The pyjamas?
And what does it mean? Low cut?

(forgive the rambling, 24 hours awake now)

No, silly. The coworkers in that office just seem difficult to disturb, which I see as a good thing. Anyway, the aforementioned pajamas weren't really my nightclothes, just silky things I put on when I have to leave the house but want to pretend I'm really still in bed.

Speaking of sleepwear, best wishes on getting to sleep soon. We saw Heist (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0252503) this past week, and even having seen it in the preview didn't ruin the joy of the line "My man's so cool, when he goes to sleep, sheep count him."

No! No! They're eeeevil! They lure you in with the tasty perks and then suck your brains out through your ears! Turn back, before it's too late!

That said, they were good eggs. There were also chocolate chip pancakes, but honestly, they paled in comparison to yours.

p.s. btw, when you're in amsterdam, buy wooden shoes. i'm not kidding one bit. i bought a pair of plain, unfinished wooden shoes (no gaudy painting, just beautiful sanded wood, suitable for painting - i just put some varnish on to protect the wood), and they are, bar absolutely none, the most comfortable slippers i've ever owned. take the time to find a pair that is a really good fit (because, of course, they won't stretch or mold to your feet at all, they're made of wood). i just remember this pair of shoes being the perfect combination of firm arch support, smooth splinterless inside, ability to absorb sweat without feeling icky, and heat retention without feeling hot and sweltering that i've ever experienced in footwear. for months afterwards i wore wooden shoes with no socks, and i was a happy man indeed. only problem is that traction is bad on carpet, and the shoes make a hell of a racket on wood or stone floors, plus asphalt or concrete surfaces tear up the soles. i solved all three problems by purchasing a sheet of sticky-on-one-side textured rubber sole material at a shoe store and sticking thin pieces of it to the soles of the wooden shoes.

there are a number of tourist shops in amsterdam that sell wooden shoes, but the real place to go is here (this is where i got my first pair of wooden shoes). incidentally, i just noticed that their website claims that if you send them a friendly email before coming to amsterdam, and they expect you, they'll give you a 5% discount :)

Molly, don't even think of going wooden-shoe-shopping without me. I'm SO in for this. :)

Nice! You're on. I already emailed them saying we'd show up. I'm strangely intrigued.
