Wow, that was the most pleasantly active weekend I've had in a long time. It was part of the annual migration of David's college friends -- they all return to Virginia Beach every May for a week of silly gaming. I finally saw Freedom Force, which was surprisingly cute. How can you not love a "fully-destructible world"? Also played Puerto Rico, which was one of those strategy games with lots of little fiddly bits where it takes you half the game to really appreciate the scope of the thing. So, I think I liked it, but I'd like to play again to make sure.

Anyway, for a weekend practically designed around sitting on one's butt, it made me surprisingly sore. We managed to go out skating for a couple of hours on two different occasions, and also to get in a lot of DDR. Yay DDR! This was the first I've played in a couple of months because of my dang achilles tendon problems, and it didn't bother me at all. I also handily cleared some five-foot trick songs, which was nice to do after the big hiatus. I'll set it up again tonight at home and see which ones they were. I think I've mostly figured out the weird jumps and internalized the patterns for them, so I don't have to stand around for a second when I see up-and-left or whatever. (Walking home from the T yesterday actually did cause a little pain, which sucks.)

Freaky. That's kind of what I did just a bit south in North Carolina, including playing many games like the one you mentioned (although I'm not in that picture).

Hee! Beautiful. Beach-gamers unite!

We actually didn't play as many board games this year as I would have liked, but that one caught my interest.

Beach gaming! I haven't done that since I moved away from Virginia Beach. It'd be tough to do these days, since most of the gang I used to game with there have moved away (including me).

Board games & RPGs are something that I'd like to spend more time doing. I haven't played Illuminati in at least a year, and I don't know where my copy of Rail Baron is.

Geez, you and your leg ;)

We have a proverb in german: "Ungeschicktes Fleisch muß weg." (i.e. clumbsy flesh has to leave). If you don't want to have that problem anymore, I'm sure me and my (t)rusty saw can help.

Hrm, talk about being confused. My alarmclock just went off. To turn it off, I first turned on my fan. When that didn't help, I turned on my light. Sill buzzing, so I turned the fan back off again, and when the clock was still being annoying, I smacked it against the wall until it stopped. But I feel much better now.

mmmmm, rusty saw

Yeah, yeah, so I obsess over my gimpy health problems. I'm new to this whole injury thing! I guess I've never really had anything like this before. It amazes me how long it's taking to go AWAY. In video games and movies, it all happens so fast. Anyway, when all of this finally goes away, the long detailed descriptions of my leg problems will probably be replaced with long detailed descriptions of biking and how inadequate my hill-climbing skills are. :)

Re: switch confusion: I often find myself walking into dark bathrooms and turning on the faucet, thinking that that will make the light go on. It never works, and I don't even have the excuse of being all sleepy. I certainly get it with my alarm clock all the time, too. I can't set it on "radio" anymore because I used to wake up confused, thinking that I wasn't supposed to get out of bed until the music went off.

Well, actually I'm just surprised that it's still troubeling you. Feel free to continue obsessing.

Staying in bed until the music went off: what did your boss say to that excuse? Must have given you some leeway, because it's so original *g*.
(bleh, must leave for lab now. this week is going to be tough, both for us, and the students we tortu^H^H^H^H^Hhelp finish their problems)

Mind you don't start flashing red, though. That's never healthy.

So Puerto Rico doesn't have instructions in english? Not that it bothered me, but I was curious....

Well, I'd only found the official English-language page (http://www.riograndegames.com/games/rio195.html) and was pretty disappointed by it. Here (http://kumquat.com/cgi-kumquat/funagain/12491) are some more interesting reviews in English. We played the English version.
