Are the chains lit or is does it just look that way because of a long-exposure time? :) (I also spin and have just heard that chains can also be lit and am very excited but lacking advice on how to achieve this -- hence the curiousity!)

It's actually just an exposure time thing. I didn't want to use flash -- the fire still shows up and you can see the performer better, but [a] I was afraid it'd screw them up, and [b] I like the effect of the light coming only from the fire. Anyway, no, the chains aren't lit.

Hooray for spinning, though! I'd like to see someone spin with lit chains, sometime.
