lyonesse and
dilletante this morning. I think that's the first time I've run a mile, non-stop, in under 10 minutes. It might not be an accomplishment in many parts of the world, but here in my little corner, it is. So yay. I've also finally been sold on the virtues of double-knotting my shoelaces, since the right was untied for the last 1/4 mile and the left untied for the last 1/2. I'd like to try this running thing again; I promise I'll be less stupid about ramping up this time.
I have an appointment with the sports doctor today -- I know my concerns are still valid concerns, but it feels funny to still be going even though I'm biking a whole lot less. I don't think we're even going to do the 600k this weekend. We could. It'll probably even be nice out. I just... don't feel like it! We'll probably do something else wacky instead, but something less strenuous. Anyway, my knees and ankles are generally happier than they were two weeks ago, so maybe a bit of time off has been a good thing.

Date: 2003-06-11 07:24 am (UTC)(I ran a mile recently just to see if I could still do it in 10 (yes, yay biking) and when I was actually in practice (years ago...) I could do under 8. These days, it seems a bit shin-splinty, so I prefer the biking.)
Wow. Astonishing.

Date: 2003-06-11 07:35 am (UTC)Hee. Yup! Go you! I'm impressed. Maybe I'll run an 8 minute mile before I die.
I've always hated running, and always been terrible at it. I'm enjoying it more this time 'round. Anyway, this is one of the reasons "working on running" is a valid summertime goal...

Date: 2003-06-15 08:31 am (UTC)I have a long-standing hatred for running that I only started to get over last year; unfortunately, I got so gung-ho so quickly that I injured my achilles tendon and couldn't run (or bike or do much of anything besides rollerblade) for almost a year. Anyway, I'm *very very* new at running, so I'm still proud of doing a single mile without a walk break, and, realistically, I'm not sure I'll ever get much faster than just-under-ten-minute miles. Baby steps. If I end up having similar strengths in running as I do in biking, I'll try to build up to silly distances but I'll probably still stick around that time frame. :P I think endurance is all about being more persistent thn you really have logical reason to be.
I'm hoping this year will be better. :)
