I want a Mapquest-type thing that takes bikeable routes into consideration. You know, like, one which takes the data from Rubel and other similar regional bike maps and has a little tab that says "BIKE ROUTE" alongside the ones that say "AVOID HIGHWAYS" and "SHORTEST ROUTE". If only regional bike map makers had a standard.

IBM might be moving us to:

* Waltham
* Cambridge
* North Reading
* Nowhere.

Who knows? We find out in the next few weeks. I guess North Reading isn't that far -- Mapquest's no-highway route is still under 16 miles -- but I gotta say, I'd prefer Cambridge.

Speaking of, we still have that bike route up here in New Hampshire we were talking about hitting once it got warmer. And since it is doing just that, we should look for a time when we can get together and go. Of coarse, that means I actually have to find said trail, but that is just a small detail, I am sure.

North Reading isn't that that far from Somerville (my mom lives 1 1/2 towns over, so I go to that area fairly regularly), but I'm having trouble thinking of any non-super-busy streets that would get there quickly, unfortunately. I'll talk about it with one of my friends who still lives out there.

Route 28 is about the only bikeable route from Somerville to North Reading. Route 28 is McGrath, then the Fellsway, then Fellsway West, then off into space. This is not the ideal path. Frankly, it's a nightmare until you get to Melrose.

North Reading is outer space, man. It's so far out that it has a Wal~Mart.

Yeah, 28 was the only way I could think of that didn't require biking through Arlington, Lexington, and Woburn. That way's pretty damn long, though.

North Reading is as bad as you say, definitely. Between that, Wilmington, and Tewksbury, it's a total no-mans-land out there!

I wish I were comfortable on a bike. Biking sound slike fun and I even got myself a good bike, but I get freaked out especially when riding around the city.

Might be a bit of a bike trip, but I think they should move you to ATLANTA.

I never saw the rubel maps. Yummy. Need to get those into the GPS system also, which is actually doable. Yay.
